Written between the 2nd and 5th centuries, Cultivating Stillness is attributed to T'ai Shang Lao-chun, the legendary figure more widely known as Lao-tzu, authorof the Tao-te Ching. The accompanying commentary was written in the 19th century by Shu-ch'ing Tzu, and explains the alchemical symbolism of the text and the methods for cultivating internal stillness of body and mind. Considered essential reading for Taoist initiates, it offers sage wisdom on achieving equanimity, good health, peace of mind, and long life.
