Main Description
Kyoto Journal - "Perspectives from Asia" is a one-of-a-kind independent non-profit magazine of 96-104 pages per issue (with minimal advertising), founded in 1986. As of Spring 2011 (issue #76), KJ will switch to cutting-edge reader-friendly digital format, taking advantage of media technologies that were unimaginable back when the publication was founded. An all-volunteer quarterly, KJ offers alternative and thought-provoking perspectives on Asia through interviews, essays, translations, humor, fiction, poetry, and reviews, and accompanied by memorable photo-essays, original illustrations, and award-winning design. First-time subscribers are offered a bonus printed back issue (#59, #62, #67 or #70) free of charge, as an extra welcome gift. Another option is to subscribe beginning with issue #73, receiving two print issues (plus free bonus issue) and two digital issues. New format details will be posted at kyotojournal.org when finalized.
Avid readers should note that back issues of the paper print format are still available. These include favorites such as The Sacred Mountains of Asia, The Silk Road: From Samarkand to Nara, Word, Inaka: The Japanese Countryside, Unbound: Gender in Asia, Transience, and Tea. Please contact info@redwingbooks.com if you are interested to order any specific back issues.
